25 Subtle Signs of a Bad Relationship
Everyone has probably been in at least one relationship that they ultimately needed to call it quits on, whether that person is still a part of your life or not. But how can one tell if that is happening in a current relationship, and when one should think about breaking up?
If you have been wondering whether your relationship is in trouble, continue reading – following are some common signs that you may have been ignoring…
1. He is not affectionate with you
The foundation of any lasting relationship is a healthy love life. If you are not getting the kisses, hugs, and cuddles you need to feel close to your partner, there could be trouble. Of course, for example, a busy work schedule could be one reason for less intimacy, but if you have noticed a significant decrease in affection altogether, then it may be time to start paying attention to how your relationship is going.
2. He rushes through your conversations
Too little time spent in a conversation could indicate a problem. If your partner does not seem interested in talking with or listening to you, he may not really be interested in who you are as a person.
3. He does not give you enough attention
In a healthy relationship partners are interested in listening to each others’ needs and wants. If you have reason to believe that your partner is not paying you the attention you deserve, it is time to move on.
4. He is not as affectionate in public
A lack of public display of affection can lead to feelings of abandonment and insecurity. If your partner does not show any signs of love when you are around other people, the relationship is most likely on an unhealthy path.
5. He is always on your case
If you love to be independent and take care of yourself, do not cling to someone who does not seem to understand that need for you to be – and express – yourself. A persistent nagging becomes very stressful and can be a sign of distrust and insecurity on your partner’s side. If this constantly happens, you should feel alarmed.
6. Lack of Communication
One of the first things people enjoy in relationships is communicating. It is essential to get to know and stay in touch with each other – but when there is a lack of communication, it can signify that something is wrong.
7. You do not feel loved anymore
If your partner does not speak and act in the same affectionate way like he used to, that is a sign that something is wrong with the relationship.
8. If you are always fighting
If you and your partner fight about everything – from both of you not taking responsibility for anything, to having and not being able to accept different opinions, then maybe it is time to end it.
9. He doesn’t want to do things with you anymore
If your partner always finds a reason not to spend time with you, something is wrong.
10. Not talking about the future together
When your partner does not want to talk about the future – like marriage or having kids – then that could signify that they do not want to be in the relationship anymore.
11. You do not get along anymore
Even though you still think that you love each other … if it gets harder and harder to get along on an every day basis and you both seem to disagree on anything and insist on doing it your own way, that could be a sign.
12. He has lost interest in you
If your partner is running around and only doing his own thing, without even noticing you, he has probably lost interest in you. This does not necessarily mean that he does not love you anymore, but maybe he is not interested in an intimate relationship right now.
13. He is always calling you for something
If he starts constantly calling you for something, day in and day out, even about the most unimportant things, he might be jealous or trying to control you.
14. You always must ask him before anything anymore
If he is only concerned with his own goals and ideas and makes you ask him before being allowed to do anything on your own, he may not care about the relationship anymore.
15. He argues … a lot
Arguing is a sign of insecurity. If your partner is constantly accusing you of something, he probably feels very insecure about himself, and tries to compensate it by putting the focus – and blame – on you.
16. He doesn’t compliment you anymore
If your partner stops complimenting you, first try to look at things from your partner’s point of view: maybe he is tired, stressed out, sick or perhaps even depressed. But if all you get on a daily basis are negative comments or criticism, that is a sign.
17. He is always busy when you need him
If he is constantly talking about his work or being too busy with who knows what when you need him or ask for his help – especially during the weekends – something is wrong.
18. He doesn’t want to get married anymore
Should your partner suddenly start questioning your plans of getting married or your relationship’s future, something is wrong.
19. You feel like he is holding back on you
If you feel like your partner is keeping things from you and is not willing to honestly share his feeling anymore, there could be a problem.
20. He will not introduce you to his friends and family
If your boyfriend or girlfriend does not want to introduce you to the people who matter most to them, there could be something wrong.
21. You are thinking about leaving already
If you are already thinking about leaving and do not feel that your relationship has a future, it is definitely time to move on.
22. You are hiding things from one another
If you are hiding things from your partner, or he is from you, there could be a problem. Dishonesty – by one or both partners – is definitely going to affect your relationship in a negative way.
23. You need something that he is not giving you
Every healthy and happy relationship needs some compromise from both partners. If you feel like something important is missing in your relationship or really needs to change, talk to your partner about it. If he is not at all open for change, it may be time to move on.
24. He has a bad temper/ he doesn’t trust you
How long can one stand partner with a bad temper? A bad temper often reflects deep distrust of the partner’s doings – but fact is, that trust is the very basis for a happy and long lasting relationship.
25. He is often tired or exhausted when he comes home
If your partner is always too tired to want to do anything with you when he comes home in the evening, there could be something wrong.
The Bottom Line
If only one or two of the above mentioned points apply to your relationship, it might not be as perfect as you would like it to be. But, if several of these points apply, and you have talked about it – maybe several times already – but nothing’s changing, there is a very high chance that your relationship will not last long.
It’s important for you to know that you do not have to hang on to your partner and wait for something terrible to happen, to realize it is over. You can end it before things get worse and save yourself from a lot of pain.
